Soaking up: Banff- Where to eat

Eating has to be my favourite thing to do while on vacation. I love submerging myself in food culture of whatever city I’m staying in and Alberta is all about their home grown beef. I was skeptical as to how different beef could actually taste between Alberta and Manitoba, oh boy was I in for the treat. Now I’m not a huge meat eater but when in Alberta do as the Albertans do.

We were in Banff for 4 days, and we ate at Coyotes Southwestern Grill 3 of 4 days. It was evident that each meal was prepared fresh, with locally grown ingredients. The Southeastern/Mediterranean menu has a variety to suit anyones taste, my top two picks are the Mountain man breakfast and Smoked Salmon scrambled eggs. We also joined them for dinner, and yes it surpassed the scrumptious breakfast.  


Ok this is a no judgment zone area. My favourite lunch spot was Beavertails. I know, I know I preach a healthy lifestyle, let’s be real for a moment, when on vacation you have to indulge. Never heard of Beaver Tail?? What rock have you been living under, these massive pastries are shaped like a beaver tail (hence the name) and topped with your pick of treats.


We stumbled upon Saltlik while trying to find a restaurant that wasn’t lined up for dinner. My husband and I shared a 16oz prime rib, that came with 2 sides, and the mac and cheese for Leo. Oh did this mama forget she ordered a bottle of red wine to compliment the steak (or was it to help me forget the awful day sightseeing with a crying toddler in the car).  The meal was more then enough for the both of us to share, and the steak was divine. This texture was perfect, it was perfectly seasoned and every single bite was packed with flavour. The rustic charm of the restaurant complimented the beauty of Banff and can I just say Saltlik understands the importance of customer service. The restaurant is reasonably priced for the area and the food was worth every penny.
