Let me keep it really real, you know those post that make travelling with a baby look flawless, IT’S A SCAM. Travelling with children in general causes major anxiety for most parents and thats ok. Once you break away from a babies routine, its open season for anything to happen. Last year, I lost my mind and thought it was a good idea to travel with Leo 5x before he turned 1. My mini traveller is a trooper, and as a mom I have to make sure I am prepared for everything. Here is the most basic items that every mom should pack in their carryon when travelling with a mini traveller.
This is the most underrated essential travel item for your lil is a medical kit. Our kit has Tylenol, bandaids, nail clippers, a thermometer, q tips and wet wipes. Some may say this is over the top, but I like to have our “regular” pharmaceutical items available, especially when travelling over seas. I can say I have used every single one of these items on almost every trip.
I know it seems ridiculous, however in my experience it never hurts to carry at least 2-3 outfits for baby and 1-2 extra outfits for mom. Why mom you ask, lets just put it this way if baby is messy so are you. I have been pooped on, puked on and have had numerous things spilled on me in the airport and while in transit.
Swaddles are great multi use items, that are very compact. We used swaddles as blankets, breastfeeding covers, clean up cloths and more.
Drinks and plenty of snacks
If your babe is eating solids don’t be scared to bring some of their faves snacks on board. Not only does it keep their attention, it gives them a bit of comfort. I have packed a sippy cup with water, frozen infantino squeeze packs (it thawed over the course of the flight, keeping it fresh) and things like small crackers, goldfish etc. If you aren’t sure what you can bring through security in your local airport, make sure to check their website. Most times breastmilk, formula and most liquids are able to taken through security and on to your flight.
Ladies! Ladies! Please do yourself a favour and invest in a good carrier. I generally opt to leave the big bulky stroller at check in and just go through security with Leo in his carrier. When travelling with a baby always remember Less is More. Having Leo strapped to me, I am able to manoeuvre through the airport with ease, not mention get on and off the plane with out disturbing Leo if he falls asleep.
This is where is gets tricky. Try to bring toys that don’t make too much noise, but still attractive enough to be interesting. Guys, a great plane hack, grab your toys that have suction cups on the bottom, they stick to the tray and avoid the million awkward searches trying to find toys that rolled all over the plane.
What’s in your carry on for baby? I’d love to know in the comments below.
